Tips for Driving in
Mexico
As with any foreign
location you should drive slower than you would back home.
It's common for the
car in front of you to signal for you to pass by flashing their left
turning signal.
Of course this could also mean they are going
to make a left turn. Be careful.
If you are not sure if
you should pass or not, it's best not to.
And here's a BIG one! Make sure you have
Mexico automobile insurance.
If at all possible
avoid driving at night in Mexico and NEVER drive alone.
Livestock of all types cross the roads frequently and you won't see
them until the last minute - if at all!
Some vehicles may have
no brake lights or one headlight making for dangerous driving
conditions. There is also the safety issue with highway
robbers, or Banditos.
Better to not take any chances and avoid
night driving in Mexico all together.
Make sure you equip
your vehicle with an emergency kit before embarking on your road
trip to Mexico.
Bring your vehicle
in for an automobile inspection before traveling to Mexico.
Making sure your automobile is ready for a long trip will help
minimize breakdowns and unwanted surprise repairs.
If it begins to
rain while driving it's best to pull over and wait for the rain to
lift. When it rains - it pours! Roads can be washed out
quickly and very slippery conditions may arise from the mixture of
dust and oil on the roads. If you can not stop and wait for
the rain to slow, then drive very very slowly.
